HotClip privacy policy

Last updated 25 October 2026. HotClip is made by Quantum Qbit.

What we collect

HotClip has no accounts and no crash reporting. We never see the links you paste or the clips you make.

Analytics

HotClip uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used, so we can make it better. It records app opens, screens, how long the app is used, and when a clip or download starts, finishes or fails (the mode, resolution and aspect ratio, and a short error message, never the video link or title). Firebase also collects device information such as device model, Android version, language, approximate location from your IP address and an app instance ID. Google processes this data under the Firebase privacy and security terms.

Ads

HotClip is free because it shows ads from Google AdMob: a banner at the bottom of the screen and, at most every few minutes, a full-screen ad when you start a clip. To pick and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects device information such as your advertising ID, device model, language, approximate location from your IP address and app usage. How Google uses information from apps that use its services explains what it collects and how to opt out. In the EU and UK, HotClip asks for your consent first. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads. HotClip Pro removes all ads. If you buy Pro with a code, we see your device ID (a random number Android gives this app) only to make your code.

What the app connects to

To read a video and cut a clip, the app talks directly to YouTube (or the site the link points to). Once a day it downloads the latest version of yt-dlp, the open-source tool it uses to read videos. At most twice a day it reads store.quantumqbit.in/hotclip/version.json to see whether a newer HotClip is available. These requests carry no information about you beyond what any web request does (such as your IP address, seen by those servers).

What stays on your phone

Your clips are saved to Movies/HotClip on your phone. The app keeps a few settings on the device, such as how many clips you have made, which decides when it asks for a rating. Uninstalling HotClip removes the settings; your clips stay in your gallery.

Permissions

Internet, to read videos and load ads. Advertising ID, used by Google AdMob for ads. Notifications, to show progress while a clip is being made and to tell you when it is ready. Vibration, for small taps of feedback.
